Police Kill 4 Suspected Cultists In Rivers

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have killed four suspected members of Deygbam Cult group during a gun duel at Ndele community in Emohua local government area of Rivers State on Friday.

Briefing journalists at the State Police Command headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, said those killed were among cultists that invaded villages in the community.

Nwonyi stated that four persons were beheaded during the invasion of two villages in the community on May 30, 2023.
The Police chief recalled that in his maiden speech on assumption of duty in the State, he promised to tackle all manner of crimes and criminality.

He said: “On June 2, 2023,the Deygbam cultists invaded Ndele community. The DPO, Rumuji Police Divisional headquarters mobilised patrol teams to the community.

“Personnel of Rumuji Police Division and local vigilance group, acting on credible intelligence intercepted the cultists and in exchange of gun fire, some of the cultists, Chinomezi aka Nick, Aaro the Armourer, Chinza Orji, Okunna aka Okosa were killed .

“The killed cultists participated in the killing and beheading of  four persons in the community on 30th, May, 2023.”

The Police Commissioner listed exhibits recovered from the hoodlums as two pump action guns, one locally made gun and empty catridges of AK 47 rifle.

He promised to maintain the existing peace while soliciting for support and information from members of the public.
