ECWA Blames Fuel Subsidy Crisis On Corruption

President, Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Stephen Baba-Panya has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to alleviate the sufferings of ordinary Nigerians caused by fuel subsidy removal by his administration.

He said the best option is to stem corruption and cut the subsidy to a reasonable level in the interest of all Nigerians, but lamented that corruption had stopped every good thing from thriving in the country.

The clergyman who spoke to newsmen in Jos at the weekend during the installation of Rev Ayuba Asheshe as ECWA general secretary said, “When you look at this subsidy, if it has been something that is done with integrity, I believe that nobody would have complained about it.”

Baba-Panya said the problem that “we are having as desirable as subsidy is the corruption that is associated with it,” stressing that, “this is what is making subsidy in this country very unattractive.

“One would have wished that the government had the political will to deal with corruption. I believe that the subsidy level that is being claimed to be paid will not be as high as this, so that ordinary Nigerians can have the benefits of the common wealth through our natural resources (oil) that God has blessed this country with,” he said.

The president, also tasked the newly appointed general secretary and the board of trustees to do their best in discharging their duties to fulfil God’s calling during their tenure,
