In his inaugural address, President Tinubu boldly announced the discontinuation of fuel subsidy triggering significant repercussions that his administration has been diligently managing over the past two weeks.

To address mounting concerns, the federal government conducted an extensive meeting with organized labor on Sunday and Monday. Following a lengthy discussion that stretched into the late hours of Monday night, organized labor decided to suspend their scheduled strike, displaying a willingness to engage in dialogue.

Furthermore, President Tinubu engaged with the Nigerian Governors Forum, seeking their support in subsidy removal.

Fortunately, the state governors unanimously expressed strong backing for President Tinubu’s decision, recognizing his all-inclusive leadership style and statesmanship. Led by Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, the governors conveyed their delight with the subsidy removal and promised to collaborate with the president in mitigating its short-term impact.

Prior to these developments, President Tinubu urged the governors to join forces with the federal government to combat poverty, emphasizing the intolerable levels of impoverishment in the nation.

On the same day, the president met with major oil marketers and directed the National Economic Council, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, to devise interventions that would alleviate the consequences of subsidy removal.

Marketers themselves pledged their support, announcing plans to donate 50 to 100 mass transit buses, and encouraged other corporate entities to follow suit.

In a commendable effort to foster consensus across party lines, President Tinubu engaged in meetings with opposition governors, including those from Pleateau, Akwa Ibom, and Enugu States. Additionally, he met with the defunct G-5 governors, consisting of five PDP governors from the previous administration: Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Nyesom Wike (Rivers). Of the G-5 governors, only Makinde currently holds office.

These governors had formed an alliance after Atiku Abubakar won the PDP presidential primary in May 2022. They demanded a southern replacement for the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition to support Atiku in the February 25 poll.

The engagement with opposition governors, including those from Pleateau, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and the defunct G-5 governors, indicates President Tinubu’s dedication to building consensus and fostering unity beyond party lines. These meetings serve as crucial steps toward bridging divides and working together for the betterment of the nation.

By seeking dialogue and understanding, President Tinubu showcases his inclusive leadership style, aiming to create a harmonious political environment conducive to effective governance.

Moreover, the president’s meeting with traditional rulers reflects his recognition of their pivotal role as custodians of culture and guardians of the people’s welfare. Assuring them of an open-door policy and pledging to listen to the aspirations of Nigerians, President Tinubu reinforces his commitment to responsive governance and harnessing the rich potentials of the nation. His focus on crucial issues such as fuel subsidy removal, security enhancement, job creation, environmental sustainability, and the forthcoming election of principal officers of the National Assembly underscores his determination to address pressing challenges and propel the nation forward.

President Tinubu’s engagement with former governors Kwankwaso and Ganduje of Kano demonstrates his resolve to mediate and find peaceful resolutions to emerging conflicts. By actively deescalating tensions arising from the demolition of buildings, the president emphasizes his commitment to maintaining law and order while promoting dialogue and understanding among stakeholders.

In conclusion, President Bola Tinubu’s swift actions and engagements with diverse stakeholders highlight his proactive approach to governance. His decisions and meetings reflect a commitment to reunite the country, foster sustainable economic growth, and address critical issues such as fuel subsidy removal, poverty alleviation, security enhancement, job creation, and environmental sustainability. By building consensus, bridging divides, and prioritizing the welfare of Nigerians, President Tinubu aims to lead the nation toward a brighter future, where its vast potential can be realized for the benefit of all.
