Lobbying Govt To Support Children With Deformity Is My Target – Wananesom

FAMILY

My father is Major Titus Wanenosom (rtd).  He worked as a military officer and was attached to former head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd) while my mother, Mrs Lami Titus was the second wife . I AM THE LAST OF FIVE LOVELY CHILREN SHE HAD WIT MY DAD.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I attended and completed Numan 111 Primary School and Government Secondary School (GSS) Numan in 1987 and 1993 respectively. I later proceeded to Kaduna State Polytechnic, where i obtained for a National Diploma (ND) in marketing, purchasing and supply, after which I returned to the same Kaduna Polytechnic for Higher National Diploma (HND) in marketing.

After my compulsory of one National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme in Ogun state, I  returned to Abuja, where I  did a post graduate diploma in business administration at the University of Abuja, before proceeding to Imo State University for  a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) degree in Management.  I also obtained two  Masters degrees  in Business Administration and public Admin from the National Open University of Nigeria and Nasarawa state University respectively. I am currently doing a PhD programme in Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

CAREER

I started my career with a telecommunication company and later moved to the banking industry.  I am currently a manager/head of administrative department, Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited,  operator , Kainji and Jebba Power Plants in Nigeria- the largest renewable energy company in West Africa.”

Due to my quest for writting, I have written three books to her credit which include,  The Woman of Divine Destiny,  The Power of Attitude to Success, and  Poverty is a State of Mind  Not Finance.’

I am  currently writing my fourth book called, ‘The Female’.

INSPIRATION

Today,  I want to particularly thank God for my life because he has been a banner over me. Prior to my mother’s demise, she was the secret weapon of success in my life. She saw me through my upbringing with words of encouragement and prayers.

My brothers, sisters, and most importantly, my two guardians have also contributed tremendously to where I am today. I would love to thank them because without them I won’t have been where I am. I have several women who have triggered and supported me to keep moving.

INSPIRATIONS

I want to see that all children born with deformities are well supported in this country. This has been my dream and desire.

I hope that one day a law will be created to support and give a voice to all domestic staff in Nigeria.

CHALLENGES

The challenges I have is that  in this part of the world,  ladies face challenges when rising in their career where you need to balance home and career. I have three children and I have to be a mother, teacher, doctor, mentor, friend, lover, and guardian at the same time.

It is not as easy as when a man decided to achieve. But as a female, you have to struggle hard in balancing so many things to be able to achieve your goals. So, to me, this is a challenge.

FEARS

Most of my fears have to do with the fear of the unknown, the future of my children, my career what happens next, coupled with the environment where we found ourselves.

Also, I look at the level of education for vulnerable kids. You find out that they cannot even afford government primary schools.

And that is why my foundation came up with a programme we called, Education One-on-one Nigeria, where you picked a child, any child in your neighbourhood, and pay for his or her school fees.

WHAT DIFFERENTIATES YOU FROM OTHER WOMEN

What I learned from, my mom is wisdom. She taught me how to look at things and analyze them before making any moves.

If I want to put my hands into anything, I will analyze it to know if it will be good for me. And if it is not going to be good for me, I will know. So, that makes me different.

I also used wisdom. God has given me before I put my hands in everything. I must do all my analysis, I must look at the risk involved. I will look at the prospects.

WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO START YOUR NGO

When I resigned from the banking sector, I stayed at home, so I decided to do school runs, and every morning, when I’m taking my children to school, I will see some children playing.

And one day, when I was going, I saw some children and they were folding paper, like cigarettes. And these children are like, four to five years old.

So, one day after I dropped my children at school, I came and sat down with them and asked them to show me their houses. I started wondering why these children are not in school and that’s how I started paying their school fees.

So, that was the motivation behind my NGO. So from then I started looking out for this kind of children and took them to schools.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR NGO IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS

Well I am running the organisation at a low pace because I am quite busy with work and family

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO OTHER WOMEN

I will advise women that they can always make it in life. The reason why you don’t make it in life is because you did not want to,

I can tell you for fact that if you decide that you want to make it in life, or that you want to be financially free, you can do it.

You will achieve whatever you want to achieve. There is no doubt about it. But what we see most times are women complaining about how difficult the country is.

Charity is a beautician, a writer, a motivational speaker, an administrator, manager and founder of an Abuja-based Non-governmental Organisation (NGO)- Dependable Basic Child Education, which takes care of children born particularly with deformities.
Wananesom was born in Kaduna State but raised in Numan town in Numan local government area of Adamawa State.
