The newly deployed Naval Commander of Oguta Naval Base, Commodore Shettima Ibrahim, has declared zero tolerance for insecurity in Oguta, Imo State.

Recall that the immediate-past Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, had on May 11 flagged off the dredging of the Oguta/Orashi waterways linking Imo State to the Atlantic ocean.

Commodore Ibrahim made the disclosure during a courtesy call on the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, in Owerri, state capital.

The Naval boss declared readiness to partner with the Imo Police Command to initiate modalities to checkmate insecurity and insurgency in the state.

Recall that former Governor Rochas Okorocha had few days ago raised the alarm over the spate of banditry in several local government areas in the state, which has forced people to abandon their villages.

Commodore Ibrahim said the visit was to strengthen the already established synergy that exist between the Navy and Police in the state and set up modalities on how to entrench a robust communication network.

The Imo Police boss represented by the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Administration, Ukachi Peter Okpara, assured of the Command’s maximum cooperation especially in intelligence gathering, prompt and timely dissemination of intelligence to assist in the crusade against all forms of crime and criminality in the state.

Okpara welcomed Ibrahim to the state and expressed appreciation for the visit, which he said was good to foster harmony within the uniformed agencies and improve security in the state.

Others, who received the Naval team were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Femi Haruna; the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, DCP Mohammed Sirajo; the AC Operations, ACP Abdullahi Musa, and ASP Okoye Henry, the Police Public Relations Officer.

The visit ended with the presentation of souvenirs, exchange of essential emergency lines, and a photo session.
