Former Senate spokesperson Ajibola Basiru has charged the electorate In Nigeria to shun primordial sentiment of religion in their choice of who governs them.
Apparently referring to the incident that led to Governor Ademola Adeleke storming out of Osogbo Central pray- ground on Wednesday, Basiru insisted that no matter the issue at hand, the governor should have stayed to observe the two raka-at prayers on Eid day.
Fielding questions from journalists in his Osogbo county home yesterday, Basiru appealed to the electorate to take governance seriously and desist from allowing anybody to deceive them using primordial sentiment of religion to get to power.
His words, “It is also ironic that somebody who is a Muslim, no matter how hard it is, no matter the issues involved, to observe two raka-at prayers should not be an issue that you stormed out of the Eid and after that his spokesperson says he went to do thanksgiving.
“For me, as our people begin to grow and demand good governance from public officials, as we begin to pay tax they will take governance seriously and won’t let anybody deceived them using primordial sentiment of religion”
Basiru who stated that the narrative of the governor’s spokesperson that three buses full of thugs were sighted without getting anybody arrested till the moment, especially when it involved the chief security officer of the state amounted to either inefficiency or outright lie.
“The CPS said some hoodlums were seen in about three buses at Eid ground and till today nothing has happened in terms of arresting and bringing them to books.”
