FIDA, AJCMC Engage Stakeholders To Strengthen Case Management

International Federation of Women Lawyer (FIDA) Nigeria Abuja branch, and Administration of the Criminals Justice System of Nigeria AJCMC, has engaged with stakeholders in judicial to review the case management in the judicial service.

The AJCMC secretary, Mr. Sulayman Dawodu, stated this at a one day workshop on the review validation of the practice direction of the administration of justice act 2015  Practice Direction  in collaboration with the Macarthur foundation at the FCT Federal high court in Abuja, yesterday.

He said effective case management system is not only to ensure the efficiency and transparency of the judicial system, but also enables access to justice and upholds the right to a fair trial and entails the availability of systems, sufficient staff and members of the judiciary to process cases, as well as measuring their efficiency and effectiveness in the judicial service.
“Daudu further reinstated that acting case management which includes the early identification of the needs of witness achieving certainty as what must be whom and when it particular by the earliest of the timetable for the progress of the case. Monitoring the progress of the case compliance with order and directions ensuring the evidence weather disputed or not is presented in the shortest clearest way.”

According to him, the purpose of this Practice Direction is to carry into effect and ensure compliance with the Overriding Objective of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 as expressed in section 1(1) of that Act, particularly in: Ensuring efficiency and speed in the case management of criminal trials and dispensation of justice.
Protecting the interests and fundamental human rights of the defendant, victim, witnesses and society; particularly the right to fair hearing.

“Ensuring active participation of all parties to focus on matters that are genuinely in issue for trial thereby reducing delays and expense at trials.
The Practice Directions shall apply to all criminal trials in the Magistrates Courts, High Courts, Upper Area Courts and other courts that try criminal cases in the Federal Capital Territory.”
Speaking at the event the chairperson of International Federation of Women Lawyer  FIDA Mrs Chibuzor Moreen Nwosu, in her remarks informed that the workshop on the review validation of the practice direction of the administration of justice act 2015.

Practice Direction focused on criminal speeding trials of criminal case in our judiciary system.
It also focus on the validation review and practice direction of the ACJMC act which bring about innovation that would speed up the criminal trial system especially anti-corruption cases.
