HYPPADEC Establishes Anti-corruption, Transparency Unit

The managing director Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa has officially inaugurated the Anti-Corruption/Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the commission.

Sadiq Yelwa at the inauguration and induction ceremony said that the commission must be free of bribery, gratification, misappropriation of public funds and misuse of public offices.

The MD had directed all heads of directorates, divisions and units, as well as all members of staff to cooperate with the unit in order to build a corruption-free organisation and assured the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) team of the maximum cooperation of the management.

He said the ACTU is meant to promote ICPC’s mandate on prohibition and prevention of corruption in the public service, adding that it is mandated to operate as an autonomous outfit with functional linkages with the office of the chief executive.

Yelwa promised to support the unit in taking disciplinary actions against anyone found wanting or who tarnishes the image of the commission.

He maintained that unless lawlessness and impunity are fought, efforts by the federal government to wipe out corrupt practices from public service will remain a mirage.

Sadiq Yelwa however applauded the efforts of the ICPC towards ensuring sustainable development in the Nigerian public sector through the establishment of Anti-Corruption Units across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The chairman, ICPC, Prof Bolaji Awasanoye represented by the Niger State resident anti-corruption commissioner, Malam Zayanu Danmusa stated that the commission  will institutionalise the ACTU  to sensitise and promote high ethical standard in all the MDAs to ensure transparency and accountability.

The unit chairman, Architect Yusuf Ibrahim assured to bring to bear the team’s wealth of experience, competence, transparency and justify the confidence reposed in them.
