The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) in Kwara State now enjoys 20 hours uninterrupted electricity in all its facilities.

The head of Corporate Affairs unit at UITH, Elizabeth Ajiboye said the development will bolster services at the hospital.

Disturbed by the incessant power outages to its facilities, the hospital’s management had to connect the electricity supply of the hospital to a dedicated line from Ibadan with a viable step down in a sub power station.

“We appreciate the chief medical director, Prof Abdullahi Yussuf, for this giant stride and his untiring efforts at making this development a reality.

“In addition, major electrical faults have been corrected just as faulty transformers have been fixed, restored and re-energized,” Ajiboye said in a statement.

The UITH’s spokesperson said that the development has solved an age long problem bedeviling the facility as a tertiary health institution, even before the advent of Yussuf’s administration.

She said that because of the symbiotic relationships between the hospital and the University of Ilorin, the management has also extended the dedicated power supply to the old College of Health Sciences building within its premises .

She added that stable electricity supply has boosted the supply of water, through over 20 boreholes into all vital areas of the hospital.

Ajiboye stated that the hospital’s management has also replaced obsolete fire extinguishers with new ones towards advertising fire disasters in the facility.
