The 10th National Assembly Legislative Support Group (NLSG) has said that the leadership capacity of President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, was the reason for easy consideration and passage of N500billion fuel subsidy palliative proposal by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The legislative group in a statement jointly signed by its Strategy Director, Anderson Achilike, and Chris Ogbu, Echefu Wisdom and Ogechi Pete,
said Akpabio’s leadership virtues were the reason why the 10th National Assembly was having a robust legislative synergy with the Executive, in the interest of all citizens.

According to group, it takes great virtues and capability to be able to preside over the affairs of an Assembly as diverse as the 10th Assembly and get all lawmakers from different political parties easily agree to a matter.

Achilike said, “I believe that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and APC’s National Working Committee knew that the 10th Assembly, given how diverse it is, needed a visionary, and dynamic leader; who understands the peculiarities, complexities of Nigeria, to mann the affairs of the parliament, hence the choice of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President.

“Barely a month after their inauguration, 10th Senate under Akpabio’s leadership has proven to have its sight set on the stability of the country and offering robust legislative synergy to the Executive for the benefit of all Nigerians. The National Assembly had at the plenary last week granted approval to President Bola Tinubu’s request for N500 billion for fuel subsidy palliative.

“The President understanding the untold hardship being faced by Nigerians, requested to amend the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act so as to extract N500 billion from the budget to be expended on fuel subsidy palliatives. The federal lawmakers gave the request express approval without any rancour as expected of a parliament as diverse as the 10th. This could only be possible due to the leadership capacity of Senator Akpabio, a man understands the nitty-gritty of public administration and management of human resources. We are optimistic that the next four years under his leadership will witness a unified, productive assembly.”
