Muslim clerics, including the national chairman of the Hijrah Organisation of Nigeria, Prof Badmus Yusuf, on Wednesday, enjoined President Bola Tinubu to address inflation in the country in order to reduce sufferings of the masses.
The clerics spoke during the celebration of the Islamic New Year Hijrah 1445 A.H. in Ilorin, Kwara State .
Yusuf, a teacher of Islamic Studies at the University of Ilorin, said that the inflationary trend has continued to have negative effect on socio-economic welfare and development of the populace.
“The current increase in the inflation index has led many families into untold hardship as many families cannot meet its obligations.
“Even, see the recent increase in the pump price of fuel from N515 to N617 per litre, the economic propensity of Nigerians to have money to buy this product is low and this is serious for our economic development as a nation.
“Our major request from the state and federal governments is to address these prevalent situations like insecurity logjam which is facing us frequently. We also call on the governments to address the problem of inflation and food shortage,” he stated.
Yusuf also used the occasion “to call on Muslims to be conscious of western conspiracy on the adulterated Qur’an and anti-Islam literature such as the Triangle of Monotheism which is compilation of some passages in Quran, Taorah and Injil which is totally unacceptable as a substitute to the Qur’an.”
In his lecture, the national missioner of Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdulMumin Hanafi-Ayara, called on President Tinubu to address the effects of the new fuel price increase on masses of the country.
He lamented that one can spend over N15,000 on fuel for township trips in just a day.
Ayara urged Muslims to continue to live in peace so as to move the nation forward.
In another lecture, Sheikh AbdulRazaq Adama-Thanni, who represented Madrul Markaz, Sheikh Habbebulahi Adam Al-Ilory, said that for the nation to enjoy sustainable peace, government should address food sufficiency through promotion of agriculture.
He advised government to use Sambisa Forest in Borno State and other mass land across the country for agriculture in order to check insurgency.
