A non governmental organization, Better Life Programme for African Rural Woman (BLPARW) in collaboration with the Bank of Industry (BOI) is set to empower 500 entrepreneurs in Kwara State.

As a prelude to the facilitation of start- up capital for the entrepreneurs, BLPARW has organised a  training programme for  selected beneficiaries in Ilorin, the state capital.

The  project coordinator, external initiatives of BLPARW, Aisha Ojone Abu, said the organisation was also in partnership with the United Nations Development Organisation (UNDP), Kwara State government  and D-Positive Global lmpact  Foundation to achieve its vision of training and facilitating start- up capital for enterpreneurs in the state.

“At the end of the intervention, we would have created at least 300 new jobs and scaled about 200 existing jobs in Kwara State to bridge unemployment gap and help achieve the objectives  of the Social Development Goals(SDGs).

“This is the second phase of the UNDP/  Kwara State socio-economic  revitalisation support programme to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on households and small businesses. The intervention will create new jobs and scale existing ones.

“The BLPARW will be using the GIZ modular approach (Inspire, Create ,Start and Scale model) for the intervention.

“The GIZ modular approach involves capacity building and ecosystem linkages to address some of the factors that impedes the growth of businesses in Nigeria.

“Participants will be trained on create, start and scale initiative. The participants will understand basic business principles and create their enterprise as well as have business model canvas for their enterprise,” the coordinator added.

In his remarks, the founder, D-Positive Global lmpact Foundation,Mr Nasiru AbdulKadir said that the programme was designed to take people out of poverty by engaging in enterprises.
