The Nasarawa State Government has approved N2,135,534,997.11 for the payment of outstanding 2013 gratuities to 608 retirees.
The approval was announced by the Commissioner for Finance, Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi.
Abdullahi said the N2.13 billion covers all verified state retirees with outstanding gratuities for 2013.
She added that local government councils have been directed to clear outstanding gratuities up to 2012, with an estimated amount of N2.3 billion.
LEADERSHIP reports that the latest approval continues the administration’s structured effort to liquidate gratuity arrears dating back to 1999.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, upon assuming office in 2019, said his government had to sanitise the gratuity system because retirees were leaving service without accessing their entitlements.
The state had fully paid gratuities from 1996 to 2011 and subsequently approved N1.6 billion for 100% payment of 2012 gratuities. In 2025, the government released over N5 billion to clear backlogs from 1999 to 2012 and commenced a quarterly payment model for retirees.
Abdullahi noted that for the 608 retirees in the 2013 batch, payment will be processed through the Ministry of Finance and the Pensions Bureau after final verification.
