All Progressives Congress Oodua Reformation Group has expressed strong opposition to the speculated choice of Accord party’s gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, as a ministerial nominee.
The group claims that this move is an affront to loyal APC members in the state who worked tirelessly to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu.
The spokesperson for the restoration group, Olatunbodun Sikiru Omolewa, emphasized that Adelabu’s previous decampment from the APC to contest under the Accord Party against the APC governorship candidate constitutes a clear case of anti-party activity.
The group is disheartened that the Tinubu administration seems to be giving in to external pressures from individuals with connections to Adelabu, ignoring the efforts and sacrifices made by dedicated APC card-carrying members in the state.
Furthermore, an Ibadan indigene, Jelili Olaoye, expressed concerns that nominating Adelabu, owing to his ties with the Lagos state governor, who was his former colleague at the bank and an old friend, will spell doom for the party in Oyo state.
Olaoye believes that this decision will sow division and discourage party membership.
The APC Oodua Reformation Group appealed to the President, the Senate President, and the entire party not to accept Adebayo Adelabu’s candidature in the interest of the APC at the national level, and specifically, for the well-being of Oyo state.
They fear that accepting a nominee from an opposition party will only make the APC a laughing stock among the opposition.
