‎September 12, 2023, was the day the light went out, but three years later, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba known to millions as Mohbad remains unburied.

‎Exhumed in late September 2023 for a coroner’s autopsy following intense public outcry, the Afro-street artist’s remains have lingered in a Lagos mortuary, held hostage by procedural delays, legal wrangling over toxicology results, and unresolved family disputes over paternity and burial arrangements.

‎What was meant to be a swift forensic investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death turned into an agonizing stalemate. While his music continues to stream across global platforms, his earthly body remains trapped in limbo, a tragic symbol of delayed justice in the Nigerian entertainment ecosystem.

‎Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi Aloba had hoped that issues surrounding his death would have been resolved but this is not the case, as she had cried that the family – Mohbad’s father was bent on taking over his son’s property but she wouldn’t allow that.

‎Mobahd’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba – Father had expressed anguish in delay in court process. “Every single night, I lay awake thinking about my son cold in that room. All we asked for was clarity on how he died. Instead, we got endless court adjournments and conflicting reports. Imole deserves peace, but peace cannot come without the truth of what killed him.”

‎Civil rights advocate, Kunle Faboyade ‎also spoke on the matter.

‎”It is an indictment of our forensic and judicial infrastructure that a high-profile case takes three years just to resolve autopsy findings and grant release authorization. Justice delayed is dignity denied. Holding a young man’s body in limbo for this long inflicts secondary trauma on his family and fans alike.”

‎An afrobeats analyst, Getrude Williams says it’s doesn’t look good at all that the family and all the parties have not been able to resolve the legal tussle around Mohbad’s death.

‎”Mohbad sang ‘KPK – Korope Kon Koper’ and gave us light (‘Imole’), yet the system left him in the dark. We lit candles in 2023 promising we wouldn’t forget. Three years later, seeing his body still in a mortuary while the industry moves on feels like a collective betrayal. He deserves a proper, dignified resting place,” he submitted..
