Taraba State governor Agbu Kefas is set to roll out palliatives to alleviate the pains of residents of the state over fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.
Kefas disclosed this to organised labour union during the nationwide labour protest at the Government House in Jalingo, the state capital yesterday.
The governor said he had directed secretary to the state government to invite both labour leaders, marketers, the road transport workers and school head teachers for a round table meeting to strategize on how the palliative idea would make the right impact on the poor masses. He pleased with the labour union to be patient with government.
“I wish to appeal to Nigerians to be patient about the fuel subsidy removal and ask relevant questions about how the plan palliative would impact positively on the lives of the poor masses.
“I wish to disclose here that my palliative strategies would be rolled out next week to alleviate the effect of fuel subsidy removal for Tarabans.
“I have already instructed the SGS to invite both labour leaders, marketers, road transport workers and school head teachers for a round table meeting to strategize on how the palliative idea would impact on the poor masses.
“We are aware of the untold hardship inflicted on the citizens by the waves of fuel subsidy removal and we are going to intervene in no distant time and restore hope of better days ahead for the citizens,” Kefas said.
Earlier, the state NLC chairman, Peter Jidiel, said the workers’ action was in compliance with the NLC national headquarters directives for a nationwide protest against the hardship imposed on Nigerians by the fuel subsidy removal and failure of the authorities to meet the workers’ demands to alleviate the effect of the hardship.
