As aspirants across political parties indicate interest in contesting the 2024 governorship election with over 37 aspirants from Edo Central senatorial district, a group known as Edo Coalition for Equity at the weekend called on Esan politicians to support the candidacy of Barr Ken Imansuangbon if the zone is serious in their desire to produce the next governor.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the group said that after due diligence and analysis, they have concluded that Esan needs to queue behind Imansuangbon on the account of his popularity across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The group also noted with great concern the large number of aspirants from the zone alone adding that what is needed is for the people to speak with one voice in a bid to produce and support a candidate with capacity regardless of political parties.

The statement signed by Jacob Aigbojie stated that, “ It is thus imperative for the aspirants, especially the chunk of whom are from the central district, to close ranks and allow the person who is well positioned to win and represent their divergent interests as well as that of the people of the state in general.

“Our position here is that if they (aspirants from the central zone) decide to file out against one another, they will certainly lose this golden opportunity to balance the leadership issue in Edo State.

“A critical look into the profiles of these aspirants leaves no one in doubt about their capacity to deliver on their various mandates if elected, but the chances of any of them winning will be slim if they fail to present a common front and put forward their best to face others.

“In putting forward their ‘best bet’ for the 2024 governorship election, they must consider the following attributes: leadership skills of such a person, communication skills, policy initiatives, collaborative approach, public support, empathy and most importantly, financial war chest.

“Without doubt, Barr Kenneth Imasuagbon fits into this description and should thus be supported by other aspirants, most of which are still in the learning curve as it concerns politics.”
