The managing director/chief executive of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Senator Gbenga Ashafa, has said his agency would build 20,000 Golden Jubilee estates in the six geo-political zones for its 50 years of existence.

Ashafa, who disclosed in Abuja at the unveiling of the FHA Golden Jubilee Logo and theme, said the agency had cause to celebrate its 50 years of existence, adding that FHA is now a performing agency.

He said: “As a memorial, management has planned the construction of Golden Jubilee estates across the six geo-political zones of the country. Recently, we did the groundbreaking of the Jubilee estate in the Mbora District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“In total, about 20,000 housing units are what we are planning in the six geo-political zones, and they are of different types. And it differs from one place to the other. The Zuba project is just an example because of the model that we used, which is one bedroom, two bedroom, three bedroom.

“In the last lap of the Zuba project, we were able to come up with somewhere around 48 units within 18 acres of land,’’ he said.

He also pledged that the FHA would deliver on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate of providing livable and affordable housing for Nigerians.

Ashafa, however, disclosed that the founding chief executive of FHA, the late Fortune SP Ebie would be celebrated alongside others who had served in different capacities at the agency at the event that would hold later in the year.

He said, “The Authority has moved from high to low moments. We are happy that our management has been able to drive this institution to the present position of a performing organisation; away from the state of affairs, we met about 36 months ago.

“What we are doing today therefore is a precursor to the planned celebration we will be having towards the end of the year. We will be celebrating the efforts of all the staff that have worked in the Authority, starting from the founding Chief Executive Late Fortune SP Ebie to the least current staff, who aggregate input in service is the cause of our celebration.”
