The Victims Support Fund (VSF) in partnership with the Katsina State government has flagged off the distribution of food items to 4,000 internally displaced persons, IDPs, in three local government areas of the state.
The IDPs were drawn from Batsari, Jubia and Faskari local government areas of the state to benefit from the food items that consist of 10kg of rice, 5kg of beans, a sachet of maggi cubes, salt, sugar and vegetable oil worth millions of Naira.
Addressing journalists shortly after the launch of the distribution in Katsina State capital, the executive director, VSF, Prof Nana Tanko said the beneficiaries were carefully selected from poor and most vulnerable people in the affected areas, adding that 2,444 women and 1,556 male adults are meant to benefit from the items.
The executive director explained that the VSF was established in 2014 to support vulnerable household victims affected by the spate of insecurity in nine states across the country.
She reiterated the commitment of the organisation to unfold numerous interventions for those affected by banditry and kidnapping for ransom in Faskari, Jibia and Batsari local government areas of Katsina.
While launching the distribution at Old Government House, Katsina, the deputy chief of staff office of the deputy governor of the state, Muktar Saulawa thanked Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, the founder of VSF foundation for the support to the victims in the state. He assured that the items would get to the right beneficiaries, urging other donors to render support to the vulnerable poor households in the state.
