Spanish player, Aitana Bonmati, has won the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award for the 2022/23 season.
Bonmatí won the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award Thursday night ahead of Olga Carmona and Sam Kerr, adding her name to a list that includes Nadine Angerer (2013), Nadine Kessler (2015), Celia Sasic (2015), Ada Hegerberg (2016), Lieke Martens (2017), Pernille Harder (2018, 2020), Lucy Bronze (2020) and Alexia Putellas (2021, 2022).
Bonmati helped Barcelona win the Women’s Champions League and then inspired Spain to World Cup glory last month.
Bonmatí who was named best player of the Champions League and World Cup, achieved her first major international recognition.
“I would like to congratulate all the nominees. It is a privilege for me to be here after the successes of last season, a season I will never forget. I would like to share the award with all my colleagues because without them I wouldn’t be here,” said the award winner.
The UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award is to honour the outstanding achievements in European football from the previous season.
