The candidate of Accord in the forthcoming Kogi gubernatorial election, Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman (Rtd), has asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) of government in the state to provide a detailed account of how it utilised the 13 percent derivation funds received from the federal government in the last eight months.

The ex-Naval chief said citizens have the right to be informed about their elected leaders’ stewardship, in order to ensure transparency and good governance.

A statement by Usman’s campaign council signed by its youth spokesperson, Comrade Samuel A Danjuma, said “the call for transparency and accountability underscores the importance of informing the people of Kogi State about the use of these funds, which are intended for the state’s development.”

He added that there is the necessity for a comprehensive report on fund allocation and utilisation under Governor Yahaya Bello’s leadership, especially given recent challenges in the oil-producing region of the state caused by flooding, “which underscores the urgency of addressing local issues through social infrastructure and youth empowerment.”

The statement further noted that “this call for accountability aligns with Accord’s vision of using public funds judiciously to address critical concerns like infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and job creation.”

Danjuma added that “their mission is to create a brighter future for Kogi State, emphasizing the importance of holding leaders accountable.

“Jibrin and Accord remain dedicated to their vision of bringing positive change and progress to Kogi State, guided by principles of transparency, inclusivity, and the genuine empowerment of the state’s residents,” he said.
