A yet-to-be identified truck driver has died while his assistant (motor boy) was rescued from under a 40ft container after a ghastly motor accident on the Port access road in Lagos on Thursday night.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the accident occurred at Wharf Road, opposite Area B Police Command outward Apapa in Lagos.
In a press statement by the director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority rescued the motor boy, who was trapped under the fully loaded 40ft container while the driver died instantly.
Adebayo explained that the accident involved the container laden-truck and a stationary tipper truck with no registration no.
He said, “LASTMA Egbetola Sulaiman ‘Zebra 36’ (Apapa) who led the rescue team confirmed preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the 40ft loaded container while on top speed lost control and rammed into another stationed tipper truck with tyre problem.
“While the body of the dead driver was at the Area B Police Command, the rescued motor boy was immediately rushed to nearby General Hospital at Apapa for medical treatment.
“Other emergency responders at the accident scene include Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Police, Nigerian Port Authority (NPA).”
Adebayo, however, stated that the General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, has warned truck drivers to always consider other road users and be very careful when driving during day time and night.
