Kebbi State governor Nasir Idris has promised to construct mega schools in all the four emirate councils in the state.

In a speech to mark his first 100 days in office yesterday at Presidential Lodge, Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, Idris said his administration decided to adopt the Borno State model to standardise the education sector.

He promised to be fair to all the people of the state, stressing that no section would be marginalised.

Governor Idris said more teachers would be recruited into primary and secondary schools to enhance the quality of education.

Idris said in line with his zeal to upgrade education at the basic level, he awarded a contract for the renovation and construction of new classrooms as well as supply of furniture to schools.

On the payment of leave grant to civil servants, the governor said N1.5 billion approval was given for immediate payment to all categories of workers with a standing instruction that no worker should receive less than 10 per cent of his/her annual pay.

To give Birnin Kebbi, the state capital a befitting outlook, Gov Idris said construction of triple and dual lanes with solar street lights as well as roundabouts had already begun to enable the town to be at par with other state capitals.

“We always want to execute projects that have direct bearing to the lives of people. We also want to give projects that will empower people, alleviate poverty and carry people along,” he assured.

The governor promised to construct township roads in all the four emirates to give the people a sense of belonging.

On the issue of appointments, Idris urged politicians to be patient as he would very soon constitute boards and parastatals and appoint more special advisers with a view to incorporating more people into the state administration.

To cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, the governor said Kebbi State government decided to add  N3.5 billion to the N2 billion received from the federal government to purchase grains for distribution to vulnerable persons in the society.

The governor appreciated the royal fathers for their prayers, support and advice which, according to him, culminated into the success recorded so far in just 100 days in office.

He sought for support and cooperation of all and sundry to be able to lead Kebbi people well through efficient and effective governance.
