Lagos State Police Command has said an associate professor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) will be arraigned in court for allegedly raping a 20-year-old student of the institution.

It was gathered that the victim reported that the lecturer from the Department of Botany and an associate professor sexually violated her when she visited him in his office to sort out issues regarding her results when the incident occurred.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect, Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “He (suspect) is to appear in court in the coming days.”

It was gathered that before the lecturer’s arrest, the victim reported the sexual assault to an NGO, the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation.

The group reported the case to the Gender Unit of the State Police Command and through the OC Gender, the state commissioner of police, Idowu Owohunwa, issued a warrant of arrest  through the state High Court while involving the Vice Chancellor, UNILAG.

However, it was learnt that the lecturer confessed to the allegations by the student when interrogated by the vice chancellor. Hence, he was arrested by the police.
