Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has revealed why he accepted a pay cut and short-term contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Portuguese soccer coach after the expiration of his initial one year contract as the Super Eagles handler in June, recently signed a new six-month extension that will expire at the end of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations set to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire between January 13 to February 11.

The Portuguese tactician who recently accepted a pay cut in a bid to remain as coach of the senior national team, told Brila FM in a chat that the desire to win the 2023 AFCON was the main reason behind his decision.

The former Real Madrid assistant coach said the desire to win the Africa Cup of Nations next year in Cote d’Ivoire was the main reason behind his decision.

“Me and my staff did everything in order to stay here to train these players and reach the big goal – win the AFCON title,” Peseiro told Brila FM.

Recall that Nigeria finished as group leaders with 15 points from six matches ahead of Guinea Bissau as both countries qualified for the continental soccer showpiece in Cote D’Ivoire in January 2024.
