Minister of health, Dr Mohammad Ali Pate, has said that the federal government, in collaboration with the Global Fund and other development partners, are committed to improving healthcare service delivery in the country.

The minister made this known yesterday when he led a delegation of the Global Fund and other development partners who paid a courtesy call to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at Kano.

According to him, the administration of President Bola Tinubu is giving priority to ensuring effective service delivery in the health sector.

He commends the contribution of religious leaders to healthcare delivery in the state.

He added that Kano state is chosen to be the first state to be visited due to its large population, hence the need to implore measures to address numerous health challenges in the state.

“Health is at the center of any serious country’s development agenda, and our President took a bold step and in expectation with a partnership like yourself, your Excellency, that we work towards improving the health of our population so that we can unleash its potential.

“We have almost 30 per cent of the world burden of malaria, and Kano is one the most burdened states in the country, so it’s so important that the good works that have been done already are sustained, like the one we saw at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital,” he stated.

He hinted that the development partners are coming to Nigeria as a group to support Nigeria to improve the health of its population.

Speaking at the occasion, the state governor, Abba Yusuf appreciated their concern especially the selection of the state to be among the visiting states.

“Kano people are among the most vulnerable people in terms of healthcare and poverty.

“Your intervention at this material time is very timely. I commend the efforts of the developing partners, especially in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and other diseases,” the governor stated.
