How did you become the head of this college?
I was appointed to head this college, then christened School of Health Technology in 2021 during the previous administration of the former governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu when he found me worthy of emulation. And since that time, I have been doing my best to see that I justify the confidence reposed in me.
So what have you done in that regard?
Honestly, I met the college in bad shape when I received the mantle administration from the former management. The administrative block, students’ hostels and some classrooms were all in pitiable conditions. So, from the little resources I met and the one I generated, I was able to renovate them within one year and they received a greater level of attention. After that, I moved to the construction of a new library complex, got a mini-stadium for both staff and students, procured two generator sets to ensure prompt supply of power and potable water. Then, I constructed two additional blocks and began to strategise on how to upgrade the school to a college. I sought approval from the government and the authorities of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the school to become a college/ Higher National Diploma (HND) awarding institution and my request received prompt attention from both the previous administration and NBTE.
Presently, the school has been upgraded to College of Health Sciences Jega and I’ve set up a committee for accreditation of courses namely; Health Information Management, Community Health Extension, Environmental Health as well as Nutrition and Diabetics for accreditations by NBTE for the immediate commencement of HND which is expected to start this year.
Exam malpractices and sex for marks are becoming rampant in many higher institutions. Is there any case(s) in your college?
No! Honestly, we don’t have any of such cases since I became provost of this college for being an insider, a lecturer, I took drastic measures in tackling such menace and that’s why we have zero cases of both.
Any message to the state government?
Yes! I most sincerely express my profound gratitude to the past administration of the former governor, Atiku Bagudu who appointed me as the principal then, now provost, to the college and for all the support and cooperation rendered to me as the helmsman of the college. I equally appreciate the present administration under the able leadership of governor, Comrade (Dr) Nasir Idris for his quick action on transforming the state capital, Birnin Kebbi and other developmental projects within his 100 days in office.
Dr Nasir Idris, as I knew him before, the sky would be his limit. Before the end of his first tenure, people of Kebbi State will witness tremendous transformations and enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Any other comment?
At this juncture, I want to see that this college receive the face-lift it deserves during my tenure as provost so as to compete with other colleges in the country. Moreover, I most sincerely thank the new commissioners for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Tunga and all the management staff of this college because without their support and cooperation, such achievements and my mission would be difficult to achieve.
