Army Launches Exercise ‘Still Waters 3’ To Counter Security Threats In Cross River

In an effort to checkmate activities of criminals and counter any security threat in Cross River State, the 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, has launched ‘Exercise Still Waters 3′ at Ikang community of Bakassi local government area of the State.

The exercise would help the Army bring down the incidence of kidnapping, sea piracy, and other forms of criminality taking place along the State’s maritime dormain.

At the flag-off ceremony, the Commander, 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier Gen. E.I. Okoro stated that the exercise was part of Nigerian Army’s schedule of activities for the nation in the year 2023.

General Okoro stressed that it was based on the concept of field exercise aimed at enhancing troops’ level of professionalism and preparedness, which will eventually deal decisively with contemporary security threats.

“Also real-time operations will be leverage to counter security threats in the state ranging from kidnapping, cultism, militancy, arms proliferations, and sea piracy, among others.

“The exercise will also involve representatives from other services and security agencies, thereby serving as an avenue to further building on the existing synergy amongst the security agencies in the state.

“It will challenge Commanders at various levels in their understanding of the applications of tactics, techniques and procedures of various scenarios of internal security environment.

“Your Excellency, ladies and gentlemen, be informed that this exercise will heighten the tempo of operations and ensure no respite for criminals throughout our area of responsibility,” the Commanding Officer maintained.

He stressed that the exercise will rebrand and conduct operations in both land and maritime domains that are volatile, unpredictable, and ambiquous in real time.

Speaking at the event, the deputy governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, who represented the State governor, Senator Bassey Edet Out, said that the state government will continue to support the security agencies in the state to fight insecurity troubling the state.
