Governors of the 19 northern states have conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the immediate past Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan over the death of his mother, Hajiya Halima (Baba) Ibrahim.

Hajiya Halima passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at her residence in Gashua town, Bade local government area of Yobe State at the age of 86 years.

The chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the octogenarian on behalf of his colleagues, acknowledged her remarkable life and the profound impact she had on her family and the community.

In a statement issued by his director-general of press affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, Governor Inuwa regretted that Hajiya Halima died at a time her elderly and motherly counsel and wisdom were needed by her children and grandchildren, as well as the present crop of leaders.

Also yesterday, incumbent Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his deputy Barau Jibrin mourned the deceased.

In a condolence letter to Senator Lawan, Akpabio expressed gratitude for the sacrifices and maternal tenacity provided by Hajiya Halima, which helped him in attaining his laurels in academia and Nigeria’s political space.
