Police Arrest 6 Suspects For Murder Of Borno Lawmaker’s Daughter

Borno State Police on Tuesday said the Command has arrested six suspects in connection to the murder of late Fatima Bukar, the daughter of Member representing Ngala State Constituency at the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon Bukar Abatcha last week at Gidan Dambe area of Maiduguri.

LEADERSHIP reported that police arrested the husband of the deceased and later released him before the arrest of the suspects by tracking the phone of their victim.

A statement issued to Journalists on Tuesday in Maiduguri by the state police public relations officer, ASP Sani Kamilu Shatambaya , said the principal suspect among the six arrested persons; 23-year-old Abatcha Bukar of Gidan Dambe area of Maiduguri was arrested and he confessed to the killing of the deceased.

The other suspects according to Shatambaya are 27-year-old Nuhu Mohammed of Gwange area, 23-year-old Ismail Mohammed Barka of Gwange area; 28-year-old Ibrahim Mustapha ; 28-year-old Usman Yusuf and 29-year-old Mohammed Yunus.

He said exhibits recovered from the suspects include; Infinix Hot 30i and two (2) Photograph of bruises on the fingers of Abatcha Bukar.

The statement reads, “It could be recalled that on the 17th of October, 2023 at about 6pm, the Command received a report of a case of culpable homicide from Gwange Division involving the death of a house wife, one Fatima Alhaji Bukar of Gidan Dambe area, Maiduguri. Equally, in an effort to ensure openness and transparency in investigation, the command employed intelligence-led policing to get to the root of the incident.

“In furtherance of the investigation, it was discovered that the deceased cellphone was missing at the scene of the incident, therefore investigation was narrowed on tracking the IMEI NUMBER. The police efforts yielded positive result leading to the arrest of the following suspects; Ibrahim Mustapha, Usman Yusuf, Muhammed Yunus, Nuhu Mohammed and Ismaila Mohammed Barka, all male of Gwange General Area Maiduguri Metropolis, who were involved with the deceased missing infinix Hot30i handset.

“The principal suspect one Abatcha Bukar, m 23years of Gidan Dambe area was arrested and he confessed to the killing of the deceased.”
