The Kano State Hisbah Board has taken popular TikTok creator Amani Ishaq and two other women before a magistrate court over social media content deemed to violate the state’s religious and moral expectations.
The board’s Deputy Commander, Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, confirmed the development in a statement, naming the other women as Hauwa Khamis and Sa’adatu Muhammad.
The statement said the trio appeared before Magistrate Court No. 5, sitting at Court Road in Kano, but did not specify the charges filed against them.
The board accused Ishaq of sharing dance clips on TikTok that it considered incompatible with Islamic teachings and accepted standards of moral upbringing.
The Hisbah Board did not disclose whether the women were granted bail or when the case would return to court.
