Ahead of governorship election in Kogi State, residents and natives of Ejule community in Ofu Local Government Area have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, to intervene and provide assistance over insecurity and violations of human rights in their area.

National President of the Ofu Local Government Development Association, Comrade Wada Yahaya made the appeal on behalf of the community in a statement sent to LEADERSHIP.

According to him, “With the current situation, if nothing is done, our people may refrain from voting, which is the goal of the State government. As we speak, our people continue to call for help to resolve this issue.”

“Ejule residents are living in fear and under siege. They may not be able to come out on election day without enhanced security in the community, at least five days before the election. Most of our people might leave the local government area.”

“We are not advocating for our people to vote for a specific candidate, but they should be allowed to choose their preferred candidate. That is the essence of democracy.”

Wada emphasized that if they remain silent about the current situation in their community, it will persist and negatively impact their people.

He encouraged the electorate to stand firm and not be afraid to vote in the upcoming election, assuring that there will be adequate security following the appeal.
