Joe Okoh Odey Foundation has presented N500,000 and a new laptop to Miss Grace Unimwoshi Ogbeche for emerging the best WAEC and SSCE student in 2023.
Ogbeche, a graduate of Emerald Field Secondary School Calabar got five Alphas in Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, SSCE and scored 326 in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be celebrated by the foundation.
The group had before the examinations promised to honour any student who graduated in flying colours with a donation to the school of the graduand.
To fulfill its promise, the foundation donated some text books and several learning and teaching aides worth millions of naira to the library of Emerald Field Schools Calabar for grooming the 15-year-old Grace Ogbeche to win in the contest.
At the presentation of the awards, the chief executive officer and managing director of the foundation, Comrade Joe Okoh Odey, said the initiative is an avenue to encourage academic excellence among young Nigerians.
Odey said a diligent background check was carried out to confirm that the result was achieved through individual effort before granting her the award.
After receiving the award, the father of the recipient, Phil Ogbeche, thanked the foundation for honouring his daughter.
The school administrator, Bridget Amgbah, lauded the foundation for the initiative, stressing that the award and text books donated to the school’s library would assist the students to perform better.
