Some irate youths have lynched a suspected armed robber for allegedly trespassing into Bishop Moore Memorial Staff School Quarters in Guru, a community on the outskirt of Bauchi metropolis in Bauchi State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the youths chased the suspected burglar along with two other accomplices, killing him in the process before the intervention of local vigilantes and Police, who rescued the two others.

Reacting to the incident, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, in a statement, frowned at the action of the irate youths, who instead of taking the suspects to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution, lynched one of them over alleged offence without recourse to the law.

He described the act of jungle justice as barbaric, adding that the Police will not tolerate or allow anyone or a group in the society to take the law into their hands.

The Commissioner of Police said nobody has the right to treat a suspect in such a brutal manner and that it is wrong for anyone to assume the position of a law enforcement agency.

He said the two other suspects, Suleiman Adamu,19, and Umar Abubakar, 19, believed to be accomplices to the deceased suspect, were arrested and were being interrogated before their eventual arraignment in court.

Police investigation revealed that the suspects specialised in breaking into students’ hostels with dangerous weapons during dark hours in Wuntin Dada area of Bauchi.

Similarly, a confession from the suspects revealed that they were all armed with cutlasses and sticks when they invaded the school’s staff quarters.

Items recovered from them included two machetes, 18 mobile phones, two laptop computers, and three MP3 players.
