Governor Namadi Presents N298.14bn Budget To Jigawa Assembly

Jigawa State governor, Umar Namadi, has presented the sum of N298.14 billion as the state budget for 2024 to the House of Assembly.

The governor said the budget is in line with his 12-point agenda to ensure the egalitarian development of the state.

Governor Namadi allocated N111.98 billion representing 37 percent of the budget to recurrent expenditure and N175.44 billion representing 59 percent for capital expenditure.

The education sector took the lion share of N95.5 billion representing 32 percent, with focus on teachers recruitment, improving foundation skill, reducing out of school children, which included the establishment of Tsangaya board for the redesign and integrating almajiri system into formal system of learning.

The sum of N36.2 billion representing 12 percent was allocated to health sector, while agriculture was allocated N14.14 billion.

Works and transport which included road construction was allocated the sum of N41.14 billion, rural electrification N2 billion, water supply and sanitation N5.29 billion, environment and regional planning N9.5billion.

Information technology received its first budget of N1.23 billion and N4.4 billion was allocated for youth and women empowerment.

He however presented the sum of N109 billion as a proposed budget for the 27 local government areas of the state.

The governor urged the Assembly to give speedy legislative consideration to the budget to enable his government to deliver the much expected dividends of democracy to Jigawa State electorate.

In his speech, the speaker, Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyating, promised to ensure the passage of the budget before the 3rd week of December.

He commended the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for presenting his maiden budget which clearly captured the mission and vision of making Jigawa State great. “Indeed, this budget is a realistic budget,“ Hon Dangyating declared.
