The first game of the Premier League weekend is the biggest as Man City play host to Liverpool in the blockbuster match of the weekend. The current Premier League top two will do battle in a fixture that tends to provide plenty of goals and drama.

If Man City’s 4-4 thriller against Chelsea is anything to go by, we’ll be in for a Saturday lunchtime treat between these familiar foes. The Cityzens had won their previous five games in all competitions before their visit to Stamford Bridge and have shaken off an unconvincing period in late September.

Despite a few injury concerns for Pep Guardiola, Man City will feel confident ahead of Liverpool’s visit. The current Premier League and European champions haven’t lost to the Reds at the Etihad in domestic competition since 2015 and won this fixture 4-1 last season.

However, Liverpool have been in impressive form this term and currently boast the joint-best defensive record in the league and one of the strongest attacking returns. With Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk at their best, Jurgen Klopp knows his side can spring a surprise.

After yet another defeat at the hands of Arsenal before the international break, Burnley find themselves in real trouble. In fact, Everton have been deducted 10 points by the Premier League since the Clarets last played but still sit above Vincent Kompany’s men on goal difference.

Rock bottom of the league, Burnley need to start picking up better results at Turf Moor, perhaps starting with the visit of West Ham on Saturday.

A 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last time out moved the Hammers into the top half of the table but they could be without the influential Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio up top. Regardless, they should pour further misery on struggling Burnley.

Luton Town Vs. Crystal Palace:

Kenilworth Road is yet to witness a Premier League victory, coming close before Luis Diaz’s 95th-minute equaliser for Liverpool in Luton’s last home match. However, the visit of Crystal Palace serves as a good opportunity to right that particular wrong.

Luton have just one win in the Premier League, an away victory over Everton back in late September, and need to turn Kenilworth Road into a fortress.

Palace have been in somewhat underwhelming form, losing three of their last four matches. Bar a victory over Man Utd, the Eagles haven’t managed a point against any top-half side, although that shouldn’t matter against 17th-placed Luton.

Newcastle United Vs. Chelsea:

Somewhat surprisingly, Newcastle’s meeting with Chelsea is a 15:00 kick-off despite having the makings of an intriguing clash worthy of being televised for United Kingdom viewers.

The Magpies suffered a surprise defeat before the international break at the hands of Bournemouth as they continue to struggle with their increased European workload. However, injuries have also wreaked havoc on Eddie Howe’s side, giving Chelsea cause for optimism at St James’ Park.

The Blues have generally been better against the stronger sides in the division, taking points off Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Man City this season. However, only the chaotic victory over Spurs came away from home, with the vocal Toon Army likely to get on Chelsea’s back this Saturday.

Nottingham Forest Vs. Brighton:

Nottingham Forest have been unpredictable in the Premier League this campaign. In their last two home games they have thrown away a two-goal lead against Luton and comfortably beaten Aston Villa, highlighting their inconsistencies.

However, Forest are unbeaten in the league at the City Ground, spelling trouble for a similarly hit and miss Brighton side.

The Seagulls are without a league win in six matches, including three successive draws against Fulham, Everton and Sheffield United. Roberto De Zerbi’s side have struggled with the added demands of Europa League football and a trip to Forest will not be easy to navigate.

Sheffield United Vs. Bournemouth:

After a torrid start to the season, things are starting to look up for Sheffield United. The Blades haven’t been convincing, or even particularly good, but they’ve got four points from their last two matches against Wolves and Brighton.

Bournemouth’s fortunes have also started to turn, the Cherries winning two of their last three in the league. That has seen Andoni Iraola’s side rise to 16th as the Spaniard looks to build on a 2-0 victory over Newcastle last time out.

Brentford Vs. Arsenal:

Brentford’s first ever Premier League match saw Arsenal arrive at the Gtech Community Stadium on a Friday night in mid-August, the Bees blitzing the woeful Gunners to secure a maiden win in the competition.

However, the visit of Mikel Arteta’s more well-rounded Arsenal side will prove significantly more challenging this time round, the Gunners looking to take advantage of dropped points in the clash between Man City and Liverpool.

Arsenal are hopeful of welcoming Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus back into the starting lineup, while Brentford’s injuries show few signs of letting up.
