Sports development minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment toward freeing Nigeria from the storm of doping rule violation.

Quite a number of Nigerian athletes have had to face the integrity Unit of World Athletics over doping rule violations, tarnishing Nigeria’s profile image internationally and stalling the country’s athletes progress.

But the minister in a statement issued by his media aide, Kalu Daniel, on the occasion of his 100 days in office as Nigeria’s 36th sports minister, said bold steps are being taken to fight doping violations in Nigeria’s sports.

He said one of the steps was the submission of the National Anti-Doping Commission Establishment Bill to the Federal Executive Council and the National Assembly for ratification in the coming weeks.

“Our hope is that in the next couple of weeks, we will be able to get the bill ready,” Senator Enoh said. “We will go through the necessary processes, leading up to introducing it to the National Assembly, as an Executive Bill. We will get it across to the Federal Ministry of Justice, to the Federal Executive Committee (FEC), and all the approvals that will lead to that.”

He emphasised the importance of legislation to the National Anti-Doping Committee, identifying it as a crucial step towards overcoming the challenges it faces in achieving its objectives.
