Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, has presented a proposed budget for the 2024 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly worth over N207 billion and tagged, “Budget of Continuity and Consolidation.”
The governor while presenting the budget said it was drafted with consideration of the current local, national and global economic realities adding that the budget proposal was designed to execute projects and programmes that are ‘strategic, forward-looking and people-oriented’.
He said the last 2023 budget presented by him was N176 billion and later reviewed to N168 billion noting that the overall budget performance stood at N101 billion as of 30th September 2023, representing 57.4 percent.
On the new budget of N207 billion, Governor Inuwa explained that the sum of N87 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditures representing 42 percent and N120.5 billion was for capital expenditures, representing 58 per cent of the total budgeted sum.
According to him, the budget was expected to be financed by recurrent and capital receipts including internally-generated revenue, statutory allocations, VAT, transfer from Consolidated Revenue Fund, domestic grants, external grants, external credit and domestic borrowings.
“It is with sincere gratitude to Almighty Allah (SWT) that I present to the House the 2024 budget proposal of 207.750 billion tagged: ‘Budget of Continuity and Consolidation,’ in line with our desire to build on our first term achievements and consolidate on past gains,” the governor stated.
Responding, the speaker, Hon Abubakar Luggerewo, promised that the House would scrutinise the budget and provide constructive insights that would enhance its impacts on the lives and livelihoods of the people of Gombe State.
