15 Prison Inmates Granted Amnesty In Kwara

Fifteen inmates serving various jail terms at four Custodial Centres in Kwara State have been set free.

While the federal government paid the fines of 13 inmates to secure their release, the chief judge of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Adewara, freed two others.

The release of the 15 inmates was effected on Tuesday when the Justice Reform Sector Committee led by the chief judge, alongside with other relevant stakeholders in the Criminal Justice Administration, visited the Old Ilorin Custodial Centre, Okekura, Ilorin, the state capital.

The team was received by the state Controller of Correctional Centre, Adeyinka Oyun.

The chief judge Adewara said the essence of the exercise was to decongest the correctional facilities.

Adewara thanked the officers and men of the Correctional Service and other relevant partners, who participated in the exercise while urging the freed inmates to be of good conduct .

The state controller of Correctional Service, Adeyinka Oyun, advocated the use of non-custodial measures in decongesting the correctional facilities in the state.

He appreciated the Controller General of Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, Kwara State and the federal governments for creating a condusive environment for the staff and inmates of the custodial centres in the State.
