The accident, which happened around 5: 30a.m. at the Ileke/Ayetoro Village in the Obafemi – Owode local government area of the expressway involved an orange coloured Iveco truck with a registration number KRA 80 XA and a Grey coloured Total Hiace passengers’ bus marked FKY 898 YF.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident attributed cause of the crash to over-speeding on the part of the driver of the ill-fated passenger’s bus, whom he said ran onto the moving truck from the rear “with excessive speed”.
Akinbiyi explained that the ill-fated passenger’s bus, bearing the inscription of Gombe Mass Transit Bus was suspected to have journeyed the expressway all through the night under a fatigue condition from Gombe State to Lagos.

“According to eyewitness accounts, the Hiace Bus is a Gombe Mass Transit Bus, coming from Gombe State to Lagos, but due to excessive speed and poor visibility, the bus rammed into a moving truck from the rear, killing the 10 male occupants onboard, including the driver. The seven other male occupants were injured and 1 male member escaped unhurt.

“From all indications, the driver should have been driving all through the night (night journey), which also has its own risk like fatigue, drowsiness, poor visibility among others”.
“The presumed dead were deposited at idera morgue in Sagamu while the injured were taken to Famobis hospitals in Lotto by FRSC.”.
