The Akwa Ibom State Government has intensified efforts toward the development of the Ibom Deep Seaport project, as part of its strategy to diversify the state’s oil-dependent economy through the emerging blue economy sector.
Governor Umo Eno, according to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Aniekan Umanah, has underscored the urgency of accelerating the implementation of the multi-billion-naira maritime infrastructure, which is expected to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), create jobs, and expand private sector participation in the state.
Umanah disclosed this in Uyo at the weekend, noting that the governor recently led a high-level technical engagement in Paris, France, involving Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Group and other international partners to advance discussions on the project.
“The state has recorded another significant milestone in its pursuit of the Ibom Deep Sea Port Project, as Governor Umo Eno led a high-level technical engagement and strategic working session with Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Group and other key project partners in Paris, France,” he said.
He explained that the meeting focused on the review of the Technical Feasibility Report (TFR) submitted by Worley Parsons, as well as key issues relating to investment structure, implementation framework, and long-term sustainability.
According to him, the engagement provided a platform for stakeholders to assess the viability of the project and align on actionable steps toward execution.
Governor Eno, during the session, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the timely delivery of the Ibom Deep Seaport, stressing the need for clear timelines, defined milestones, and measurable progress.
He said the project remains a flagship infrastructure component of the ARISE Agenda and a key pillar of Akwa Ibom’s blue economy strategy.
“The governor noted that the Ibom Deep Sea Port remains a flagship infrastructure project under the ARISE Agenda and a cornerstone of the State’s Blue Economy strategy, with immense potential to transform Akwa Ibom into a leading maritime, logistics, industrial, and commercial hub within the Gulf of Guinea and the wider West African region,” the statement said.
Umanah added that the state government and its partners have renewed commitment to advancing the project through sustained collaboration, technical expertise, and strategic investment partnerships.
The delegation to the Paris engagement included the Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Ibom Deep Sea Port Project and former Director-General of NIMASA, Mrs. Mfon Usoro; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong; and Engr. Uwem Okoko, among others.
