Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has pledged his administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing to residents of the state.
Mbah made the promise yesterday during a two-day stakeholders’ workshop on the proposed Enugu State Housing Policy organized by the State Ministry of Housing in conjunction with Beracah Consulting Limited.
Mbah, who was represented by the commissioner for water resources, Felix Nnamani, expressed optimism that the housing policy would help the government to provide affordable housing and boost the state’s GDP from the current $4.4 billion to $30billion.
“Gov Mbah is committed to Ndi-Enugu and will upgrade the Coal City to the third best state capital in Nigeria. And growing the economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion is bankable on land and the policy is important to achieve it,” he said.
Earlier, the managing director of Beracah Consulting Limited, Dr Aworoke Ogbimi, said the workshop was to galvanise input from key stakeholders within the housing industry towards the development of a viable state housing policy and create affordable housing for Enugu residents.
He assured that the housing policy drafting committee will produce a state housing policy that would be effective in addressing challenges to affordable housing development in Enugu State.
The State commissioner for housing and urban development, Martin Chinweike, commended the stakeholders for coming together to fashion out a housing policy for the state government to deliver its mandate on housing development.
He assured them that the state government would implement any positive policies made following the commitment of the state governor to provide affordable housing to all Enugu residents.
