Enugu State Governor  Peter Mbah has applauded yesterday’s Supreme Court verdict upholding his election in the March 18, 2023 governorship poll, saying distractions were over, and promised to intensify effort on better service delivery to make the state better.

The apex court yesterday affirmed his election, saying he was duly elected.

Justice Mohammed Garba who wrote and delivered the lead judgement described as mere, allegation that Mbah did not possess the National Youth Service Corps certificate which is one of the certificates he tendered to INEC.

According to the apex court, it found no reason to dislodge the concurrent verdicts of the Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Lagos which dismissed all the allegations the appellants raised against his victory.

It resolved all the issues that were raised in the appeal against the LP and Edeoga and  dismissed the appeal.

Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party had sued INEC and Mbah to challenge the decision of the Court of Appeal.

The Lagos Division of the Appeal Court in a unanimous decision resolved all three issues argued against the appellant, Edeoga Jonathan of the Labour Party.

The three-member panel presided over by  Justice Tani  Hassan held that the appellant failed to prove that the respondent was not qualified to contest the election.

The governor who spoke at the Government House amidst cheers, drumming and dancing by jubilant Enugu residents, said it was victory for the people and a nudge to continue the development strides and pursue his vision for a greater Enugu State.

“We wish to express our profound gratitude to the learned justices for keeping the wheel of justice rolling. We specifically thank them for upholding your mandate,” he said.
