Kano State Hisbah Board has intercepted a truck loaded with 24,000 bottles of assorted beer beverages “smuggled” into the state.

The director-general (DG) of the board, Alhaji Abba Sa’id Sufi, said the seizure was made on Zaria Road Tuesday night, noting that the truck driver and two others were arrested.

Sufi said Hisbah Corps in the state had been enforcing zero tolerance on the “smuggling” of beer and intoxicated substances into Kano through its neighbouring state boundaries and would not relent in the fight.

The spokesperson of the board, Lawan Ibrahim Fagge, in a statement quoted the DG to have commended the effort of his Corps against “smugglers” of beer into the state as the state had adopted the Islamic Sharia legal system.
