Some gunmen have abducted the immediate past chairman of the Imo State traditional rulers council, His Royal Majesty, Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred at the front gate of Eze Ohiri’s compound in Orodo, Mbaitoli Council area of the state on Saturday.
The witness said that Solomon Ohiri, reportedly a United States-based businessman and Eze Ohiri’s brother, was also kidnapped during the ordeal.
“This Saturday morning, Ohiri and his brother from the United States decided to drive out in their car to visit some friends in the spirit of the new year celebration.
“After their visit, they returned. As they arrived at Ohiri’s compound and parked their vehicle at one side, they were having their final discussion before bidding goodbye.
“Suddenly, a highlander vehicle filled with gunmen intercepted them, firing shots indiscriminately. They forcibly took both men and drove away towards the Njaba to Orlu road,” the eyewitness said.
When contacted, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Henry Okoye, said that the command has activated measures to rescue the monarch and apprehend the assailants.
