In its efforts to provide inclusive education targeting persons living with disabilities, the Bauchi State Government has transferred Special Education Schools from the Ministry of Education to Women Affairs and Child Development.
LEADERSHIP reports that under the new arrangement, education for orphans and other vulnerable children was captured as part of special education to be spearheaded by the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA).
Addressing reporters after the handing over, the special adviser to the governor on education, Adamu Zakari said the aim was to improve the educational standard of students in the state, particularly the less advantaged children.
Zakari reaffirmed the state government’s efforts to ensure that every child in the state irrespective of their status gets equal and qualitative education in the state.
The state commissioner for women affairs and child development, Hajiya Hajara Gidado, promised her ministry’s dedication towards complementing efforts to improve the education of children with special needs in the state.
The commissioner who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Bello Abdullahi, commended the state government’s improvement of the education sector in the state.
