The first private university to operate in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, Lux Mundi University, Affara Umuahia, has presented its provisional licence to Governor Alex Otti.
Speaking after receiving the licence in Umuahia, yesterday, Otti assured of his administration’s willingness to partner and support promoters of private tertiary institutions in the state.
He commended the founder and pro-chancellor of the university, Prof. Gabriel Okenwa for the achievements and expressed optimism that the university will add value to the education sector of the state.
Presenting the certificate to Otti earlier, Okenwa said the school is the first private university to get approval to operate in Umuahia, by the National Universities Commission.
Okenwa, who noted with delight that the university came on board during Otti’s administration, commended him for “the significant strides he has recorded in just few months in office”.
“The university has been approved to start off with three faculties, that is Law; Management Sciences; and Arts and Social Sciences – which will be rolling out about 11 programmes,” he added.
The pro-chancellor was accompanied by Prof P. U Mbakwe, dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; and Mrs. Blessing Ibebunjo, the acting registrar of the university.
