The pro-chancellor and chairman of governing board of Abia State University, Uturu, Mba Ukariwe has said the university’s 11 months salary arrears is beyond its financial capacity.

Ukariwe stated this in a statement he issued to the Joint Consultative Committee of Staff Unions of the university appealing to them to call off their strike over non-payment of the arrears.

He solicited the intervention of the state government in addressing the challenge and empathised with members of the unions for the hardship they are passing through.

He appreciated the governor and visitor to the university, Alex Otti for the regular release of monthly subvention and restoration of security in the university since his assumption of office.

The chairman, who used the opportunity to commend Dr. Otti for the huge budgetary allocation for education in 2024, expressed the hope for better days for the sector.
