Chief Dr. Festus Adejumobi, the National President of Saki Parapo, the umbrella body for all Saki indigenes, has called on Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to address the pressing security needs of the town.

Chief Adejumobi, while speaking on the sidelines of the 58th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association, expressed concern about the town’s current security infrastructure, stating that currently there’s only one police station in the town.

He urged the government to establish additional police posts, given the town’s substantial development.

The week-long gathering, held from January 13 to 19, 2024, brought together prominent sons and daughters of Saki from across the diaspora and the country. Prayers, traditional ceremonies, and reflections marked the event, culminating in official meetings and discussions on the town’s development.

Security topped the agenda, with Chief Adejumobi stressing the town’s lack of police stations.

“We have only one police station for such a vast and developing town,” he said.

“We urge the government to establish more police posts and empower the Amotekun security outfit to effectively address our security concerns.

“There are so many things we expect from the government, especially on security. If we have more than five police stations in Saki, it is not even enough. So we are calling on the government to assist us.”

Addressing rumours regarding the governor’s sentiments toward Saki following the 2023 gubernatorial election results, Adejumobi appealed for unity and urged Governor Makinde to overlook any perceived shortcomings. He stressed the community’s continued love and support for the governor and also appealed to the opposition to “put politics aside and work together for the betterment of Saki.”

Maintaining that the primary focus of the meeting was on security and education, the Saki Parapo National President also unveiled plans to establish Saki City University, with a special committee tasked to seek external support and generate funds.

He said, “We have mapped out how to get money to support our security agencies and local vigilantes.

“For education, the community has set up a special committee comprising individuals who can help generate funds. We have decided to establish our university, to be called Saki City University. The committee will begin reaching out to potential donors in the first quarter of this year.”

As the AGM concluded, participants gathered at the Okere palace for a celebration, marking a festive spirit amid discussions. The community anticipates positive developments in security, education, and overall town advancement in the coming months.
