The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria is set to conduct its first computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates.

The Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Josiah, confirmed that 8,285 candidates have registered for the inaugural series, scheduled from January 31 to February 17, 2024.

Despite initial scepticism, the examination has seen a positive response, with a total of 3,949 male and 4,336 female candidates, representing 47.66% and 52.3% of the total registrants, respectively. The candidates will be examined in 19 subjects, which include a total of 26 papers.

Dr. Josiah expressed WAEC’s commitment to innovation and its vision to remain a world-class examining body.

The hybrid mode of the exam will feature Objective or Multiple Choice questions rendered on-screen for electronic responses, while Essay and Practical questions will also be displayed on-screen, but responses will be written in answer booklets.

To ensure the examination’s success and prevent malpractice, WAEC has trained select officials to act as proctors. Results are expected to be released 45 days post-examination. Candidates can request certificates via certrequest.waec.org.ng and access digital copies through the WAEC Digital Certificate portal.

Candidates are advised to visit the WAEC portal for preparation materials and additional information regarding the examination.
